DA: Charges Upgraded Against Deer Park Woman Involved in Crash That Seriously Injured Motorcyclist

Jacklynn Barkey was under the influence of drugs at the time of a July crash that seriously injured a motorcyclist, authorities say.

A Deer Park woman has been indicted on upgraded charges stemming from a crash in North Lindenhurst in July, Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota said Wednesday.

Jacklynn Barkey, 27, had originally been charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs after her vehicle struck a motorcyclist on Wellwood Avenue around 3 a.m. on July 3. The motorcyclist, 60-year-old John Pesce, of Mastic, suffered a serious leg injury.

Barkey is now charged with two felonies– first degree vehicular assault and second degree assault. She is also charged with aggravated unlicensed driving, driving while under the influence of drugs and circumvention of an interlock device.

Barkey pleaded not guilty to all of the charges on Wednesday.
