60-Year-Old Woman Seriously Injured In Sayville Hit-And-Run: Police

A Sayville jogger suffered serious injuries after being struck by a vehicle that fled the scene, police say.

SAYVILLE, NY — A 60-year-old jogger was seriously injured in a hit-and-run crash in Sayville early Saturday morning, according to Suffolk County police.

Police said Michele Walters, of Sayville, was jogging on Brook Street, west of Cherry Avenue, around 5:30 a.m. Saturday, when she was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene.

Officers responded to a 911 call reporting an injured woman lying on the side of the road around 5:44 a.m., police said.

Walters was transported to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore with serious injuries, according to police.

Suffolk County Police Major Case Unit detectives said the vehicle involved is believed to be a dark-colored SUV that may have front-end damage and/or front-passenger-side damage.

Police also released an image of a vehicle of interest seen on Brook Street around the time of the crash.
