Deer Park Football Star Jasawn Thompson Wins Prestigious Awards

Jasawn Thompson will play for University of Delaware next fall.

Deer Park High School football star Jasawn Thompson was recently named the 2014 winner of the Rob Burnett Award, given to the top defensive player in Suffolk County, and the Bob Collotta Award, presented to Suffolk’s best linebacker.

Thompson was recognized at the Suffolk County Football Coaches Association’s annual banquet, held on Dec. 1 in Hauppauge.

The senior finished the season on defense with 76 tackles, five sacks and two forced fumbles, and was named both All-County and All-Conference. He also excelled at running back, scoring 19 touchdowns and amassing 1,624 yards.

Thompson will play middle linebacker on scholarship for the University of Delaware next fall.
