As part of the district’s “Book Love” initiative, Deer Park High School students in Christine Harbison’s public speaking class recently shared their love of reading by conducting virtual read-alouds with second graders at John Quincy Adams and May Moore primary schools. “We were so excited to be able to bring the high school students into our elementary classrooms via a virtual setting,” said Principal Tammy Alcalde, the associate principal at JQA and May Moore. “Our second-graders had the wonderful opportunity of listening to stories read aloud with expression and intonation. This was a perfect model for our early readers, highlighting the importance of practicing reading.”

“Especially this year, we are thrilled that we could bring students together to work on such critical topics,” said Justin Uliano, Deer Park’s ELA curriculum associate.
