Deer Park Man Charged In String Of Nassau Burglaries: Cops

PLAINVIEW, NY - A Deer Park man was arrested on Thursday for a string of robberies in Nassau after he was caught trying to break into a Plainview restaurant, police said.

According to Nassau Police, Francis J. Wohnsigl, 58, was seen by detectives throwing a piece of concrete at the front glass door attempting to gain entry into Star Kitchen on 611 Old Country Road at 1:45 a.m.

After a failed attempt, Wohnsigl was then seen walking back to a 2002 Buick parked on the corner of Patton Place and Sherman Avenue, police said.

After a brief struggle, the detectives then arrested him. He was transported to a local hospital and treated for injuries, police said.

An investigation revealed that Wohnsigl was responsible for several other burglaries including:

• Sept. 26 – H2H Nails on 425 Jerusalem Avenue in Hicksville
• Oct. 14 – Realistic Nails and Spa on 388 Woodbury Road in Hicksville
• Oct. 14 – Blooming Nails on 67 Berry Hill Road in Syosset
• Oct. 14 – Goldberg Chiropractic on 49 Berry Hill Road in Syosset
• Oct. 21 – Heavenly Nail and Spa on 384 Merrick Avenue in East Meadow
• Nov. 11 - Color Nail Spa on 140 Broadway in Hicksville
• Nov. 11 – Sarashiva Indian Clothing on 144 Broadway in Hicksville
• Nov. 23 – American Cleaners on 418 South Oyster Bay in Hicksville
• Nov. 30 – Tiffany Nails and Spa on 609 Old Country Road (attempted burglary)

He is being charged with eight counts of third degree burglary, two counts third degree attempted burglary, and resisting arrest, police said.

He will be arraigned when medically practical.
