Deer Park Man Failed To Pay Over $110K In Taxes For Subway Shop: DA

The 50-year-old underreported the sales tax collected from his customers from 2010 to 2016, the DA said.

A Deer Park man was arrested on Friday for failing to pay over $110,000 in taxes for Plainview Subway shop, according to the Nassau County District Attorney.

Amit Joshi, 50, was charged with second degree grand larceny, four counts of third degree criminal tax fraud and fourth degree criminal tax fraud, the DA said.

From 2010 to 2016 , Joshi underreported the sales tax to the state that he collected from customers of his independently owned Subway on 82 Manetto Hill Plaza, the DA said.

During that time, his restaurant made over $1.9 million in taxable sales and the total sales tax liability is $110,266.33, the DA said.

Bail was set at $1,000 bond or cash and Joshi is due back in court June 20. If convicted, he could face up to 15 years in prison.

“Sales tax revenue pays for essential public services that Nassau residents depend upon, and businesses who steal the taxes they collect leave the public to foot the bill,” DA Madeline Singas said. “We thank the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance for working with us on this case.”
