Deer Park School Budget Passes

The votes are in. The absentee ballots were counted and the community approved the 2020-2021 school budget.

DEER PARK, NY — Residents within the Deer Park School District boundaries voted to approve the 2020-21 school budget by a margin of 2,397 votes to 734.

Residents voted on the district's proposed $112,918,080 spending plan for the school year, a 2.01 percent increase from the current budget. To fund the increase, the district proposed a tax levy of $74,521,878 up 2.22 percent from the current year's.

For the open Board of Education seat held by Vice President John Gouskos, who did not seek re-election, voters elected Anthony Henkel with 1,188 votes over Taneka Jones, who received 875 votes and Jessica Pierson, who received 749 votes. Both incumbent trustees were also re-elected after running unopposed. Al Centamore received 2,577 votes and Donna Gulli Grunseich received 2,563 votes.
