Deer Park Sophomores Learn Holocaust History from Survivor

The students visited the Holocaust Resource Center in Manhasset to meet with Holocaust survivor Irving Roth.

Approximately 75 Deer Park High School sophomores in the global history classes of Laurie Osbern, Vanessa Whitney and Gina Zulkofske recently visited the Holocaust Resource Center in Manhasset to meet with Holocaust survivor Irving Roth.

During the session, Roth shared his personal story of survival with the students, who were very moved by his family’s experiences before, during and after World War II. Many of the sophomores purchased copies of Roth’s 2004 book, “Bondi’s Brother,” which he autographed for them while taking the time to speak one on one and answer their questions about his life.

While at the center, the students also toured the museum of artwork and artifacts and had the opportunity to hear individual digitally recorded stories paired with accompanying photos of victims of the Holocaust.
