Driver Ejected From Vehicle Following Southern State Crash

The eastbound lane of the Southern State Parkway was temporarily closed late Thursday morning, police said.

A driver was ejected from his car after he was involved in a single-car crash under a Southern State parkway overpass in East Farmingdale on Thursday at 11:20 a.m., police said.

James Nunziata, 22, of Farmingdale, was driving his Ford Mustang on the eastbound side of the Southern State Parkway when he crashed into a guardrail, hit the overpass and was ejected from his vehicle, Newsday reported.

The eastbound side of the parkway, near the New Highway overpass, was closed due to the crash, police said.

The East Farmingdale Fire Department responded to the crash with ambulances, heavy rescue and fire engines under the command of Chief of Department Joe Wisz.

Nunziata suffered back and internal injuries and police said he was “lucky to be alive,” according to Newsday.

Another vehicle reportedly crashed into the Mustang following the crash. The crash was minor, the publication reports.
