Filed Property Tax Exemptions?-Can you receive more than one?
Maryann Maltese sets the record straight where there may be confusion on how to save money this season and explains who is eligible.

Maryann Maltese, former Regional Communications Manager with the NYS Legislature for 18 years and a licensed Real Estate Associate with Cow Harbor Realty-Weichert Reality sets the record straight on NYS Property Tax Exemptions (STAR, Veterans, Seniors, Disability) for homeowners throughout Long Island. During Maryann's tenure in public service for NYS-it was during those years that NYS Introduced NYS STAR Property Tax Exemptions (Basic and Star) Program and created Universal Pre-K; now known as UPK. I'm very proud of these programs and witnessed their growth as pilot programs (UPK) and incredible benefits provided to communities throughout NYS.
Many homeowners or cooperative owners do not realize that NYS approves primary homeowners in receiving more than one property tax exemption if they meet the requirements for each of the Property Tax Exemptions-which if one is eligible, can reduce anxiety for homeowners. I encourage Homeowners and Share Holders to take a look at their Property Tax Assessments to determine if they are receiving property tax exemptions first; and then to review their finances and apply, said Maryann Maltese.
With my Public Service experiences-I'm more than happy to review or communicate with homeowners who reside in the Townships of North Babylon, West Islip and Huntington confidentiality or in the office.

Here's one classic example of a Homeowner that is eligible for more than one State Property Tax Exemption in NYS:
Veteran property tax exemptions are provided to Veterans (men and women) who have served in combats and provided honorable service and discharge-there is no financial requirements for Veterans to meet-so they are entitled to applying for all 4 of them if the applicant meets state requirements. Yesterday-was a prime example of a day to recognize veterans for their services and check in on them-to see if they have their Property tax exemptions applied to their residence.

Long Islanders can be eligible for the NYS STAR or Enhanced Star; plus the State Senior Exemptions if their incomes for the time period ranges from $29,000-$37,999.00-that approval can make a huge difference in our family and friends being able to remain at home. Maryann has a strong legislative eldercare and special needs population background and with her Real Estate license- can ease the experience for those who might need guidance.
