In Babylon, Some Wait for Plows

The town said all roads in Deer Park and North Babylon should be plowed at least once by this afternoon.

UPDATE: Town of Babylon officials now say to call Public Safety at 422-7600 if your road has not seen a first pass from a plow.

A two-foot snowfall left the Town of Babylon scrambling to plow roads, but officials said they're well on their way to having streets cleared by this afternoon.

Babylon officials said plows first went through primary roads to make them passable for emergency vehicles and Town Supervisor Richard Schaffer urged residents to stay off the roads until at least late this afternoon.

Town Spokesman Kevin Bonner said that 90 percent of the primary roads in Babylon have been cleared. He added that all roads should have received at least a "first pass" by 3 p.m.

"If your road hasn't received a first pass by 3 p.m., please call us at 311," Bonner said. "We want to hear from you."

Readers on Facebook chimed in as they waited for plows.

Jackie Graney-Suarato said she is "still waiting for a plow on E. 2nd Street" in Deer Park. Other roads nearby are also unplowed.

Nigel Cheddie said the news was no better on Crown Street in Deer Park and Frances Galan-Pena wrote that not one plow had passed by her home on Maple Drive in Deer Park yet. "Snowed in," she wrote.

Though Tara Paustian-Murray didn't specify where in North Babylon she lived, she said the plows haven't come by her neighborhood either.

And another North Babylon resident, Jennifer Groh, wrote that she "saw lots of plows last night in my neighborhood around Phelps Lane. Unfortunately their job was made that much harder by the homeowners in my neighborhood who left their cars in the street, despite having a driveway that was completely free of cars!"

One lucky area: The far west side of Deer Park, where multiple readers said they've had plows roll through multiple times.
