JFK Students Enjoy A Night Of Culture And Tradition

DEER PARK-NORTH BABYLON, NY - From Deer Park School District: On the annual ENL Culture Night, English as a new language students at Deer Park’s John F. Kennedy Intermediate School came to the school with their families on the evening of Jan. 18 to celebrate holidays and cultures from around the world.

As each student arrived at the event, which was organized by ENL teachers Jordana Bogart, Rebecca Corbin and Kimberly Essig, they received a special “passport.” During the night, the students and their families visited five stations representing different holidays celebrated around the world: Christmas, Diwali, Hanukkah, Ramadan and Tet. At each station, students completed a craft; after each station was completed, they received a stamp in their passports. The families enjoyed music and refreshments in between stations.

“Culture Night is such a significant night for our ENL students and their families,” said District Administrator of ENL and World Languages Ashley Rosenberg. “Students are able to come together in an environment which highlights diversity, language and culture. It’s a night that reinforces a passion for learning about and celebrating others’ cultures and traditions.”
