Kayaking for a Cause: Grab a paddle and support local veterans!

Town of Babylon Announces First Annual Event to Raise Funds for American Legion Post 1218

Town of Babylon Deputy Supervisor Tony Martinez has announced that on Saturday, September 19th, 2015, more than 100 kayakers and friends of all ages will come together at the Cedar Beach Marina to raise money and have fun at the Town of Babylon’s inaugural Kayaking for a Cause charity event. Each year the Town of Babylon Veterans Advisory Council will choose a local veterans group to receive proceeds from the event. This year’s recipient is the Hunter Squires Jackson American Legion Post 1218 in Amityville.

“We’re very proud to support the American Legion Post 1218,” said Town of Babylon Deputy Supervisor Tony Martinez, who serves as chairperson of the Parks & Recreation Committee. “Funds raised during Kayaking for a Cause will go towards repairing internal infrastructure damaged due to vandalism and theft which had left the building uninhabitable. These funds will allow Post 1218 to restore their building to a rentable condition, providing income which many veterans organizations rely on to pay their bills.”

Kayakers may select one of three trails depending on their skill level. The Beginner Trail is approximately 2.5 miles long, the Intermediate Trail is approximately 3.5 miles long and the Advanced Trail is approximately 5.5 miles long. All trails begin and end at the Cedar Beach Marina and explore Cedar Island and the Great South Bay. The registration fee for adults and teenagers ages 13 and older is $35 and the fee for children ages 12 and under is $15. On-site registration begins at 7:30 AM and the tour launches at 9 AM. Registration includes participation in the tour, a t-shit and bracelet for lunch at the Beach Hut at Cedar Beach.
