On the first day of Hanukkah, Deer Park pre-kindergartners at John Quincy Adams Primary School learned how to make latkes as part of their continuing celebration of all of the season’s holidays.
Eating the traditional snack, accompanied by applesauce, was preceded by a story about Hanukkah and an explanation of the importance of the menorah in the Jewish holiday celebration. Guided by teachers Joe Bottino, Bobbi Colby and Susan Ricciardelli, students also sang the menorah song “How Many Candles?” and discovered how to spin a dreidel.
“We came together as a grade to celebrate Hanukkah,” said Ricciardelli. “It was such a fun time!”
