Man Killed in Motorcycle Crash on Southern State
The motorcyclist was passing cars that were stopping to merge onto the parkway when he struck the rear of a car, police say.
BAY SHORE, NY - A 48-year-old man who was ejected from his motorcycle in a crash on the Southern State Parkway Wednesday morning died from his injuries, State Police said.
According to police, Philip Hittel, of Bay Shore was riding a Harley Davidson motorcycle on the entrance ramp to the westbound Southern State from Bay Shore Road, when Hittel passed vehicles in front of him that were stopping to merge onto the parkway at about 8:15 a.m.
Hittel's motorcycle then struck the rear of a Chevrolet Malibu. Hittel was ejected from his motorcycle and thrown onto the parkway, police said.

Hittel was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center, where he died from his injuries a short time later, police said.
No other injuries were reported and the accident investigation is ongoing. Any witnesses to the crash are asked to call 631-756-3300.

The crash occurred about an hour and a half after another fatal crash involving a motorcycle on Montauk Highway in Suffolk County.
