Learning and Fun with Saints Cyril and Methodius School's First Grade Pet Hamster

The students were not the only ones who returned to school this month at Saints Cyril and Methodius in Deer Park. With the start of the new school year, SSCM first-graders shrieked with joy over the return of their class pet. Nibbles, a 1-year old Roborovski Dwarf Hamster, came to SSCM at the start of the last school year, when she was just 5-weeks old. Second-graders joined in for a fun and informative lesson on everything from hamster care to favorite foods and those that are dangerous to hamsters.

Students also learned all about the new things their little hamster friend learned over the summer, like how to navigate a homemade maze, climb a set of stairs in her hamster-scale lego house, and “social” skills like climbing onto a person’s palm for some bits of fresh fruits and vegetables.
