North Babylon's Boy Scout Troop 399 enjoyed an adventurous camping weekend on September 15 - 17 at McMillan Woods Youth campground in Gettysburg National Military Park in Pennsylvania.
The Gettysburg National Military Park protects and interprets the landscape of the 1863 Battle of Gettysburg during the Civil War. The boys hiked over 20 miles through the Gettysburg Battlefield, the Gettysburg National Cemetery and viewed many of the park's civil war artifacts in the Gettysburg Museum . One of the boys favorite experiences on the trip was viewing the Cyclorama of the Battle of Gettysburg which is a three dimensional panoramic painting from 1882 which depicts the final Confederate assault. After the long hike the boys enjoyed pizza, ice cream and an evening ghost walk.
Boy Scout Troop 399 meetings are held each Thursday evening that schools are open at 7:30pm in the Marion G. Vedder Elementary School cafeteria.
