North Babylon Boy Scout Troop 399's Letchworth State Park Weekend

North Babylon's Boy Scout Troop 399 enjoyed an adventurous camping weekend on June 2 - 4 at Letchworth State Park located in Castille, NY. Letchworth State Park, renowned as the "Grand Canyon of the East," is one of the most scenically magnificent areas in the eastern U.S. The Genesee River roars through the gorge over three major waterfalls between cliffs--as high as 600 feet in some places--surrounded by lush forests.

One of the main reasons that most boys join scouting is adventure. The scouts got to camp the great outdoors, explored the hiking trails and incredible waterfalls and took in nature. After hiking 5 miles of trails the boys enjoyed their dinner and and evening campfire. Outdoor camping affords a great opportunity to build confidence, learn and utilize new skills , work as a team and develop social skills. A fun trip was had by all.

Boy Scout Troop 399 meetings are held each Thursday evening that schools are open at 7:30pm in the Marion G. Vedder Elementary School cafeteria. Originally chartered in 1975, Troop 399 has been serving the community, turning boys into leaders and giving families the opportunity to participate in Scouting for 40 years.
