North Babylon BSA Troop 399's 66th Eagle Scout

Thomas Bruggemann of West Babylon, NY has earned the highest rank in the Boy Scouts of America, Eagle Scout.

Thomas’s scouting career began when he joined Cub Scout Pack 112 in 3rd grade because he wanted to learn outdoor skills. He then joined Troop 399 where he has proudly served as Senior Patrol Leader, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Order of the Arrow Representative, Troop Guide, Den Chief, Instructor and Junior Assistant Scoutmaster for his troop. He has earned 36 merit badges during his time in Boy Scouts and many additional awards including several Nova Awards. He is Troop 399’s 66th Eagle Scout.

Becoming an Eagle Scout is achieved through hard work, with the recipient required to have earned at least 21 merit badges, demonstrate leadership and have a positive impact on society. Scouts are required to complete a project that benefits their community before ascending into the ranks of Eagle Scout.

Thomas completed his Eagle Scout Project on June 23, 2020. His project was to donate Five iPads, a charging station and assistive communication software to Just Kids in Lindenhurst, a preschool that serves children with special needs. The goal of his project was to improve the communication skills of children with special needs. Fundraising for his project was done through bottle collecting and a few fundraising events.

Troop 399 is a Boy Scout Troop based in North Babylon, NY and a member of the Sagtikos District of BSA’s Suffolk County Council. It is sponsored by the North Babylon Lions Club. Originally chartered in 1975, Troop 399 has been serving the community, turning boys into leaders and giving families the opportunity to participate in Scouting for 40 years.
