North Babylon School District Appoints Interim Superintendent

NORTH BABYLON, NY — The North Babylon School District officially has a new interim superintendent.

Dr. Laurence Aronstein, whose career in public education spans more than 45 years, was appointed by the North Babylon Board of Education as interim superintendent of schools, effective Thursday, the district announced. He replaces outgoing superintendent Glen Eschbach.

Aronstein is the founder of Educational Performance Consultants, an education consultant firm, the district said.

Prior to his retirement from public education, he served as superintendent of schools of the Glen Cove City School District and assistant superintendent for curriculum in the Copiague Public Schools.

Aronstein has worked at all levels of public education throughout his career, starting as a teacher, then working as a principal at the elementary, middle school and high school levels before entering central administration, the district said.

“We are excited to welcome an educator with such a distinguished career and proven track record as Dr. Aronstein to our district,” Board of Education President Matthew Lucchetti said. “His experience, knowledge and insight will provide our district with the expertise and leadership abilities necessary to continue our commitment to a high-quality education for all students.”

The Board of Education told Patch that they are committed to hiring a permanent superintendent by the end of the current school year. As the process moves forward, the board will provide the community with information about opportunities for input.
