On Jan. 6, the North Babylon High School chapters of the National Art, International Thespian, Tri-M Music and World Language Honor Societies held an all-inclusive virtual induction ceremony. New and continuing student members were inducted into the prestigious organizations, which recognize students who set good examples, are always willing to assist their peers and remember that real honor brings responsibility.

Joining in the virtual celebration were board of education members, office administrators and honor society chapter advisors, who led the inductees in the reading of their respective organization’s pledge.
Addressing each of the students, K-12 Director of Music and Art Kim Lowenborg-Coyne referenced inspiring words by American cellist and ethnomusicologist, Yo-Yo Ma. “Quarantine has provided time to reflect on why and for whom we make art,” she said, quoting Ma’s Songs of Comfort project. “You are connected to the world regardless of the language that people speak. You connect with them through art, music or theatrical presentations. You can work together and change the world.”
