Police ID Man Critically Hurt in Wyandanch Shooting

Victim had a dispute with two other people prior to shooting Sunday night, police say.

A 23-year-old Wyandanch man was shot at his home Sunday night after getting into a dispute with two people, police said.

First Precinct police officers responded to a residence at 24 Hemlock Street after a 911 caller reported a shooting at 8:51 p.m.

When officers arrived, they discovered Taquan Caldwell with a gunshot wound to his abdomen. Caldwell, 23, was transported to a local hospital where he was listed in critical condition.

An investigation by First Squad detectives revealed that the Caldwell had been in a dispute with two individuals at the residence prior to the shooting. The suspects fled before officers arrived, police said.

The investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information to contact the First Squad at 631-854-8152 or call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.

The shooting comes three weeks after four people were shot–three fatally–while sitting in an SUV in Wyandanch.
