Police: Man Attempts to Rob N. Babylon Bank, Arrested 12 Minutes Later at 7-Eleven Across The Street

A Copiague man was arrested soon after he tried to rob a North Babylon bank Wednesday morning, police said.

According to police, Derrick Tolliver, 37, entered the Roslyn Savings Bank, located at 1501 Deer Park Avenue, approached a teller and presented a note demanding cash. When the teller refused, Tolliver fled the bank at 8:25 a.m., police said.

A notification was broadcast describing the suspect and his clothing, police said, and Tolliver was arrested at 8:37 a.m. at the 7-Eleven across the street from the bank on Bay Shore Road.

Tolliver is charged with third degree attempted robbery. He will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Thursday.
