Southern State Lane Closures Overnight Thursday

Lanes in both directions will be closed over night as bridge repair work continues.

For those who commute toward the city, or eastward for that matter, on the Southern State Parkway during the overnight hours, an alternate route is suggested for early Friday morning.

Lanes will be closed in both directions for a second day as scaffolding is erected at the New Highway Bridge, according to the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT).

"Drivers are urged to use alternate routes such as Sunrise Highway (NY Route 27) or they will experience delays," NYSDOT said in a release.

The scaffolding at the New Highway Bridge is being installed in order to replace the bridge parapet walls.

"This bridge maintenance repair work will help assure the longevity of these aging concrete arch bridges and will help maintain the safety of the approximately 130,000 passenger vehicles that use this section of the SSP each day," NYSDOT said.
