Tell Us What's Wrong With Common Core
We asked readers what they like least about Common Core; share your thoughts on our new open blog.

At recent forums and school board meetings across the state, parents and educators have slammed Common Core.
A total of 45 states, including New York, have adopted the Common Core Standards Initiative, which focus on the subjects of math and English language arts.
From the difficulty and rigor of the work to the effects it is having on both students and teachers, Common Core is huge topic of debate at the moment. With that in mind, we asked readers on our Facebook page what they like least about Common Core.
Here's a few of the responses:
Kelly Murphy: Honestly... There are a million things but for me the worst is... The stress it puts on the kids!!
Matthew Lucchetti: It was all implemented to quickly....not developmentally appropriate....linked to teachers assessments.... Over testing and teaching to the test....unfunded mandates... Big business involvement and corrupt politics...... local control being lost... Parents, children and educators frustrated... No common answers to the common core.... ENOUGH ALREADY!!
Michelle Cottone LeBlanc: We all want our kids to succeed, but when they are being given work they have not learned or new methods in math that seem to only frustrate both parents and kids, not to mention the teachers who are frustrated because they weren't even trained on the new material - where can the kids feel this "confidence" that not even their teachers or parents have?? How is this a healthy environment? Too much testing =Too many tears and too much stress- its educational malpractice. It needs to go! What about being a student and the love of learning? We are competing to be the best at everything and now our children are being used to "race to the top". This isn't a game and our children deserve better. Agreed with all above: ENOUGH Is ENOUGH!!
Nicole D'Ambrosio: Let our kids be kids. All these tests do is overextend our children and leave them feeling defeated after. Stop with the tests. You want to change the curriculum so bad? Teach our kids how to balance a check book, make a budget and file taxes. That will get them ready for the real world. Not some worthless memorization they'll forget as soon as the test is over.
Lisa Scudder Saladino: The worst for me is the completely developmentally inappropriate content at almost every grade level. It's almost as if they didn't even consult a child development specialist. Oh wait, they didn't....
