Vedder Elementary Honors Veterans With Ceremony
North Babylon students celebrate local war heroes with patriotic poems and choral performances.

In honor of Veterans Day, students at North Babylon’s Marion G. Vedder Elementary School celebrated local war heroes with patriotic poems and choral performances.
Following a raising of the American flag, the trumpeting of Taps by high schooler Kayla Rivera and a performance of the Star Spangled Banner by high school student Giovanna Guerrero, veterans were serenaded with songs by Vedder’s third, fourth and fifth-graders. During the celebration, children also recited poems about the significance of Veterans Day.
“Annually, we take this day to honor and remember our veterans,” Vedder Principal Kerry Larke said. “Our students truly understand who a veteran is, and why they are such an important part of our history and our country today.”
