Woman Drove High On Drugs With Her 5 Kids In Minivan: Police

She was arrested after a traffic stop on the Southern State Parkway. Three of the kids were not "properly secured" in the vehicle.

NORTH BABYLON, NY – A 27-year-old woman was arrested on a felony DWI charge after State Police say she drove while impaired by drugs with her five children in her minivan Saturday evening.

According to police, a trooper on patrol on the westbound Southern State Parkway, east of Belmont Avenue in North Babylon, observed a 2010 Chrysler Town & Country move from its lane unsafely around 6:40 p.m.

The trooper pulled the Chrysler over and upon interviewing the driver, Megan Rose Genovese, of West Islip, the trooper observed Genovese displaying signs of impairment, police said.

Genovese failed sobriety tests and she was also found to be in possession of Xanax, police said.

Genovese was traveling with her 5-year-old twins inside the vehicle, along with her three other children, ages 7, 4 and 1. Three of the children were not properly secured inside the minivan, police said.

Genovese was arrested and charged with aggravated DWI (a felony under Leandra's Law), endangering the welfare of a child, seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and traffic violations.

Genovese was held overnight for morning arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip.

The children were turned over to the custody of their aunt, police said.
