Allison Chevalier, a NYIT osteopathic medicine student and Student National Medical Association community service chair, along with four other medical students from the Old Westbury college, presented to the high schoolers about their experiences in medical school, what becoming a medical student entails and the career paths available.
“We have a college-goal culture at Wyandanch High School and want to offer our students exposure to as many career choices as possible,” said Wyandanch High School Principal, Mr. Paul Sibblies. “The presentation by the NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine is an important step for students to begin exploring their post-high school options.”

The virtual presentation not only allowed students to gain insight into medical school and specific medical programs, but also offered them the opportunity to ask questions including “Can you give me more details on certain medical fields that are related to the work of a chemist?” and “I am interested in pharmacology, do you have any insight on whether a private or state school is the way to go for this specialty?”
Following the Q&A session, presenters closed the event by providing students with resources to learn more and reminded them that it is most important to find a career path that makes them happy and that they are passionate about.
