The SSLC, which hosted its first meeting on Jan. 12, is a leadership program and forum created by Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Gina Talbert, to give student participants an opportunity to have direct communication with their superintendent and other administrators and to share their experiences and opinions on school-related matters.

During the remote meeting, Dr. Talbert introduced students to the goals of the council, outlined their responsibilities as part of the council and introduced the district administrators and teachers who will also be participating.

As members of the Superintendent’s Student Leadership Council, scholars will share their voices on a variety of topics, work to create solutions for select issues including technology initiatives, wellness programs and communication with the local community. They will also have the ability to increase their leadership skills through leadership development workshops and other special events.
“It is a great opportunity to connect with each of the scholars participating in the Superintendent’s Student Leadership Council,” said Dr. Talbert. “Through the council these students are going to play a vital role in improving the Wyandanch School District and we are extremely excited to work with them in this unique way.”
