Sharing information from the hamlet’s beginnings as West Deer Park to present day facts, students learned about the significance of Wyandanch’s rich past and why it is important for students to have a knowledge of their local history that they can be proud of and share with their families and friends.
Ms. Cascone also shared information on the entire Town of Babylon and how its villages and hamlets grew over time, sharing the names of important figures and locations.
Following Ms. Cascone’s presentation, students held a question and answer session which resulted in the district forming a Wyandanch School District historical committee with the first task to begin working on a digital archive of the hamlet’s past. Students plan to gather information learned and research to find new facts to recall and share with future generations of students.
