“We are proud to finally announce our district is 1:1, with all scholars in grades K-12 receiving their own personal Chromebook,” said Dr. Gina Talbert, superintendent of schools. “Bringing technology to each scholar in our district ensures they can have the best remote learning experience possible and can continue their schoolwork at home after in-person learning.”
The Wyandanch Union Free School District began distributing Chromebooks to students in April 2020 after schools closed their doors and switched to virtual learning due to the pandemic.
“To truly be a 1:1 school district, each scholar must have a device they use in their home as an extension of their time in the classroom,” said Christine Jordan, assistant to the superintendent for administrative and instructional accountability. “When the pandemic closed the school district, we knew the need for our scholars to have their own devices was crucial to their successful learning.”

With strategic district planning, federal and state funding, and several generous donations from community groups and outside organizations, the district was able to steadily distribute the devices to students so they can achieve academic success without a digital divide.
“We could not have achieved this technological equity without the support and generous donations from local businesses and community groups,” Dr. Talbert added.
With 2,800 students in the district, it was imperative that the students received the proper technology in order to lessen the burden on families sharing devices or using their cellphones to complete coursework.
The district is currently developing a maintenance and replacement plan for all Chromebooks to ensure the inventory of Chromebooks remains reliable and running smoothly so students can achieve their full learning potential.
