Fedora-Clad Con Man Nabs $1.4K From Flatbush Bank, Police Say

The continental con artist asked for Euros as part of an elaborate heist that involved thousands of dollars, police said.

FLATBUSH, BROOKLYN — A fedora-clad con man pulled off a slick sleight of hand that involved Euros, thousands of dollars and a Flatbush bank, police said.

The bold bank robber strolled into HSBC Bank on Avenue D and East 42nd Street carrying a fat wad of cash in hundred-dollar bills on Sept. 11 around 2:15 p.m., police said.

The con artist showed his money to a teller, told her he had $2,500 and asked to exchange it for $20 bills, said police.

He then told the teller he wanted the cash in Euros and, when she informed him the did not carry the European currency, the continental con man asked for $100 bills, police said.

It was only after he fled the teller released the con man had only handed her $1,014 and she had given him $2,500, said police.

Police released a photo of the suspect — a man in his early 30s, standing about 5-foot, 7-inches and weighing about 270 pounds, on Thursday night.
