Holiday Concert by Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra Features World Premiere by Ian Ng, 20th-century Works

In the second concert of the 40th anniversary season at their new venue
at the Brooklyn Museum, the Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra will present a program of 20th century works including a world premiere by Brooklyn composer Ian Ng  "How Fair Thou Dost Shine" which was commissioned by the orchestra.

In addition to Ng's piece, the program includes Barber's

sparkling Overture "The School for Scandal", Respighi's Second Suite of

Ancient Airs and Dances and music from Khachaturian's Spartacus ballet,

including the famous "Adagio."

"With our move to the Brooklyn Museum, we are renewing our

commitment to present the work of outstanding young composers." said

Maestro Armstrong.  "The dynamic piece by Ian Ng both challenges and

delights the orchestra and I'm sure the audience will appreciate this

rapport.  The rest of the program, rather than the usual holiday fare, is a potpourri of fascinating and tuneful 20th-century works, perfect

for a Sunday afternoon at the Brooklyn Museum."

Pre- and post-concert gallery walks are offered by the Brooklyn Museum and are posted on the museum's daily schedule of events.

All of the concerts in the 2013-14 season will take place on Sunday afternoons at the new time of 2 p.m.

Admission to the concert at the door is $20; tickets are available
online at the orchestra's web site http://www.brooklynsymphonyorchestra.org for $18. Children are free. Seniors and Brooklyn Museum members are $10.
