Meet Prospect Park Zoo's New Baby Deer

The tufted deer fawn will turn one month old on Sept. 2. To celebrate, here's a video of him frolicking through grasses.

PROSPECT PARK, BROOKLYN — A baby tufted deer born earlier this month in the Prospect Park Zoo is ready to meet the public this week.

The male fawn was born on Aug. 2 to a mama deer named Lucy and a papa deer named Gage. This is Lucy's seventh fawn. The fawn lives with his family along the Prospect Park Zoo's outdoor Discovery Trail.

Tufted deer get their name from the tuft of blackish-brown hair that grows from their foreheads. They're native to southern and central parts of China, as well as northeast Burma. While they aren't considered endangered, tufted deer are reportedly affected by deforestation to make way for farming and logging in the region.
