Rise and shine, Ditmas Park-Flatbush! Like many of you, the Patch team is taking some time off to celebrate the New Year, so there will not be a newsletter in your inbox tomorrow. We appreciate your understanding of this slight pause in our schedule, and your usual curator, Dashiell, will be back on Monday with the next edition of the Ditmas Park-Flatbush Daily! Now, here's everything happening around town today.
First, today's weather:
Patchy fog in the morning. High: 52 Low: 49.
Here are the top 3 stories in Ditmas Park-Flatbush today:
- Ready to party for New Year's Eve? Forget Times Square — there's plenty to do right here in Brooklyn for folks looking to ring in 2022, from drag and comedy shows to live music to open beer bars. If you'd prefer to stay home, Montreal's Cirque De Boudoir is hosting its famous New Year's Eve party as a virtual event. (BK Reader)
- Brooklyn is becoming a center of political power in the boroughs, with New York Mayor-elect Eric Adams, incoming comptroller Brad Lander, and public advocate Jumaane Williams all representing BK in local politics. Residents are hopeful their home will start to see some positive attention and changes as a result. "There's been a bigger spotlight on Brooklyn general," said Flatbush resident Joshua Retemiah. "More people are moving to Brooklyn from the city, from Staten Island. I am hoping Brooklyn gets a bigger limelight." (Spectrum News NY1)
- S. Wieder Architect has revealed renderings for a new Flatbush development project at 2605 Snyder Avenue. The seven-story mixed-use building is being developed by Anshel Friedman of Artist Construction LLC and will include rental apartments, residential amenities, and ground-floor retail. The project team has not announced an anticipated date of completion for the building, which will comprise 43,776 square feet when finished. (New York YIMBY)
