The Ladybug Transistor's New Album Not Named After Neighborhood
Neighborhood band The Ladybug Transistor just released a new album called Clutching Stems, which may be slightly disappointing for anyone hoping for another title based on streets in the area. The Brooklyn Paper has more:
Since releasing its first album, “Marlborough Farms,” in 1995, the band’s been anchored in Flatbush — specifically, lead singer Gary Olson’s house on Marlborough Street, which features a basement recording studio and is fondly nicknamed after that first album.
“When I first moved to the area, I liked the idea of a more communal living situation,” explained the Midwood native about that curious name. “I would just read about hippy commune working farms. I wanted to start my own cult out here in Brooklyn.”
Some of the band's other albums--Beverley Atonale, The Albemarle Sound, and Argyle Heir--seemed to promise a discography of Ditmas Park titles, but it doesn't look like there will be a Westminster Anything, for now.
The Ladybug Transistor's U.S. tour brings them back to Brooklyn next week. Check them out at the Knitting Factory in Williamsburg on July 6!
