Violinist (and 7th Avenue Busker) Tom Swafford presents his group String Power at the Tea Lounge in November and December

Tom Swafford's String Power in residency 1st and 3rd Thursdays at the Tea Lounge November 6, 20 and December 4, 18 at 9:30pm

Composer/violinist Tom Swafford presents his 12 piece group, String Power, this fall at the Tea Lounge (837 Union St. btwn 6th and 7th Ave in Park Slope). Formed in 2007, shortly after Tom arrived in New York, String Power performs arrangements of jazz, pop and folk music as well as his original compositions. Some highlights include a version of Charles Mingus’s Fables of Faubus, Venus in Furs by the Velvet Underground, Golden Brown by 80’s band The Stranglers, Azizah by Abdul Wahab (arranged by String Power’s violist, Leanne Darling), Boogie Wonderland by Earth, Wind and Fire, and Tom’s original composition Tango Izquierda. The ensemble has been in residency since September and we look forward to an exciting seconnd half beginning November 6th. We are working towards recording our first album in early 2015.
