Keeping The Christmas Spirit Alive in East Islip
In honor of her daughter, who died in a tragic crash 2 years ago, one local resident took to spreading some Christmas cheer in town.

EAST ISLIP, NY - A local woman is keeping the holiday spirit alive in East Islip in honor of her daughter, who died in a tragic crash in 2016.
Jeanne Becvar went down to the East Islip Marina on Saturday to decorate the entrance sign as well as a memorial bench with garland, bows, a mini Christmas tree and more all for her daughter, Kerri Becvar.
Kerri died two years ago in a crash on Carlton Avenue.

"Since then we try to do things to honor her memory," she told Patch. "It helps us get through such a sad time."
Jeanne adopted the marina this past fall through the group, Keep Islip Clean, since her daughter loved going there.

"It was one of her favorite spots in town," she said.

A memorial bench for Kerri is also located at the marina.
"Our town has been so supportive of us through our tragic situation so we decided this would be a nice thing to give back, to beautify the marina," Jeanne said.
In addition, the family has started two scholarships for East Islip High School students in the music program in her honor as she was very much involved.
