USCG Suspend Search For Man Reported Missing In Great South Bay
The man reportedly fell off his boat and into the water on Monday night. The Coast Guard conducted a search all day Tuesday.
GREAT SOUTH BAY, NY - The Coast Guard suspended its search for a man who reportedly went missing after falling off his boat without a life jacket in the Great South Bay on Monday night.
A Coast Guard spokesperson confirmed that a Hispanic man fell off a 37-foot boat near Hecksher State Park in East Islip.
Two women were aboard with him and contacted the Suffolk Police around 11 p.m. after he fell off, who then contacted the Coast Guard.

The Coast Guard announced it officially suspended the search Tuesday at 6:50 p.m.
Coast Guard Station Fire Island, Coast Guard Station Jones Beach, Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City, Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod and the Coast Guard Auxiliary all helped to look for the man in a 234 square mile area.

Personnel and assets from Suffolk County FRES, Suffolk County Marine, Suffolk County Aviation, Great River Fire Department and Sea Tow also participated in the search effort.
"Suspending a search for missing or overdue boaters is never an easy decision to make," Captain Kevin Reed, commander Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound, said. "We search for every person as if we are searching for one of our own and my heart is with the friends and families who have been impacted by this unfortunate circumstance."
The Coast Guard said its search is suspended pending the development of new information.
