Marble Collegiate Church

Joan Lunden, award-winning journalist, bestselling author and longtime host of ABC’s “Good Morning America,” will kick off “Inspired Conversations With…” Marble Collegiate Church’s new series featuring notable thought leaders on Thursday, April 30, 6 p.m. in the historic Sanctuary at 1 W. 29th Street in New York City.
Lunden will share stories from her newest book, Joan: Life Beyond the Script, during a memorable evening to be moderated by Faye Wattleton, longtime Marble member, former president of Planned Parenthood, author, speaker and a leading voice in protecting women’s rights. 
In Lunden’s memoir, she discusses breaking barriers in broadcast journalism, redefining motherhood and courageously sharing her breast cancer journey to advocate for women’s health and caregiving. Her story is one of resilience, reinvention and living boldly at every stage of life. Following this conversation, Lunden will sign her book, which is included in the $25 in-person admission.

Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian martial art that combines fighting techniques with fluid movement, acrobatics and music. Join us for a safe and beginner-friendly full body workout focused on improving coordination, stamina and mobility. All fitness levels are welcome.

Background: Capoeira originated in Brazil during the 16th century as a form of resistance and cultural expression for enslaved Africans. Today it is practiced all over the world.
Instructors: Classes will be led by Instrutor Salseiro and Instrutora Esquila of Capoeira Guatambu Lower East Side. With over 20 years of experience in capoeira each, they teach classes for adults and children at Abrons Arts Center. Tutu School exists to make space in the lives of children, 6 months to 8 years old, for creativity and joy. We do one thing – provide very young students with a magical introduction to ballet – and we focus all of our energy on doing that one thing in the highest quality manner possible. This means that every aspect of your child’s experience at Tutu School- from the sparkling spaces to the smiling faces – has been specifically tailored to the needs of even the tiniest dancers. Our carefully crafted curriculum was designed by dance professionals and developmental specialists to ensure that precisely the right amount of ballet technique is being introduced to students at exactly the right time, and not any earlier than their little bodies and young imaginations are ready for it. Importantly, our Tutu teachers receive thoughtful training in our curriculum and in the best ways to support young dancers, whatever their age, developmental stage, or level of experience.
