Experienced Restaurateur Behind New East Village Eatery at Former ‘Redhead’ Space

Sister Jane East Side Tavern is the new eatery in the works, owned by Michael Stewart of Tavern on Jane.

EAST VILLAGE, NY — Many East Villagers mourned when The Readhead closed last month after ten years in the neighborhood, but there's now hope for another awesome restaurant in the works. Patch has learned an experienced restaurateur filed the application proposing a new restaurant at 349 E. 13th St.

Michael Stewart, who founded Tavern on Jane in Greenwich Village, is the mystery man behind the application now posted on the CB3 website.

The new restaurant will be called Sister Jane East Side Tavern, Stewart told Patch. Sister Jane will be very similar to Tavern on Jane, but it'll be smaller with a smaller menu, Stewart said.
