13-Year-Old Arrested After Threat Against East Hampton School: Police

EAST HAMPTON, NY — A 13-year-old male student was arrested after he made threats on social media against an East Hampton school, police said.

According to East Hampton Town Police, the incident took place on Wednesday at 10:54 a.m. Following an investigation into a social media post threatening violence at the school, detectives and school resource officers quickly identified and arrested the teen, authorities said.

He was arrested and charged with one count of making a terroristic threat, a felony, and one count of making a threat of mass harm, a misdemeanor, police said.

He also "doctored" the photograph of an uninvolved student — the student depicted in the social media post is not the person responsible for creating the threatening post, police said.

Follow-up interviews and investigation have revealed no credible information indicating further threats to the local schools or students and teachers at the present time, police said.
