$7M Awarded To East Hampton For Affordable Housing Project
" The availability of affordable housing opportunities for moderate income and working class residents is in short supply." — Fred Thiele

AMAGANSETT, NY — It's a win for affordable housing in East Hampton: New York State Assemblyman Fred Thiele announced recently that the state has awarded the East Hampton Housing Authority $7 million for an affordable housing development in Amagansett.
The $7 million Unified Funding award was garnered from New York State Homes & Community Renewal fund for the project planned for 531 Montauk Highway in Amagansett; the funding is part of more than $200 million the state is awarding to build or preserve more than 2,800 affordable apartments across New York's 10 regions, Thiele explained.
On Long Island, a total of $25.6 million has been awarded to four affordable housing developments that will create 239 affordable homes, a release said.

"I am thrilled that the East Hampton Housing Authority is getting the support it needs to build this affordable housing project in Amagansett," Thiele said. "The availability of affordable housing opportunities for moderate income and working class residents is in short supply, and the adverse impacts from this shortage of housing opportunities must be addressed."
The Amagansett project will include 37 homes for families and individuals with incomes ranging from very low to moderate; the plans will also feature a two-story common house, which will include a meeting space, kitchenette, computer room and laundry facilities, the release said.

"We're delighted that the governor and the commissioner of Homes & Community Renewal recognize the need for workforce housing here," said Catherine Casey, executive director of the East Hampton Housing Authority. "Assemblyman Thiele's support was a huge help, and we're ready to move forward with a project that we're certain will serve this community well. It's what we need, when we need it."
