Black and Sparrow will give an in-store performance at Innersleeve Records on Tuesday, August 26 at 5pm, in advance of their show later that night at the Stephen Talkhouse.
About the band:
Klyph Black & John Sparrow are a New York based acoustic duo who have been performing for years to receptive crowds. They have opened shows for Subdudes, Riders of the Purple Sage, Mick Taylor, Taj Mahal, Hot Tuna and other various acts. Some of their songs have appeared on TV episodes of “Alias” and “Felicity”.
John met Klyph years ago at the Record Plant while recording with “Johnny Sparrow and the Vidals”, Klyph was also recording there with the band ‘Urgent” who were signed with Manhattan Records and produced by Ian Hunter and Mick Ronson. They both hit it off and a friendship began and a couple of years later “Black & Sparrow” was formed. They performed to sell-out crowds in Switzerland and their first CD “Friend and Partner” was a hit there. After a few years of good fortune, John Sparrow had to stop touring due to personal reasons, so he began scoring films. He scored the full-length movie “Schmucks” and “Marie” which he also had a major role acting in. Klyph in the interim joined the “Zen Tricksters” recording and touring nationally. Then teaming up with Rock and Roll Hall of Famer “Donna Jean Godchaux”(Grateful Dead) recording their self titled CD “Donna Jean & the Tricksters” and touring nationally.
“Black & Sparrow” back together in the past couple of years picked up where they left off, new songs and sell out crowds. They decided to add musicians and have a back-up band behind their two acoustic guitars (Klyph also plays dobro & slide guitar). First added was Randolph A. Hudson lll , a virtuoso on Baritone 6 and 12-string guitar. He has played with the Fugs, Psychedelic Furs and has toured with “Bongwater” and “Magnuson/Kramer. Along with Randolph A. Hudson lll, are Mike Mazz on bass and James Bernard on drums.
Now with a full band, there songs have taken on another dimension, they have been getting encores at every show. Their new CD coming out this year is going to push them even further. They have been joined on stage in the past year with Charles Neville and also Grammy winner Terrance Simien.
