He was the first Black actor to play the iconic "Phantom" in Broadway's Phantom of the Opera, and as a Tony, Grammy, and SAG Award nominated performer has a long and impressive list of credits on stage and screen. This special event promises insightful dialogue as Tom Junod is joined by the talented Aida Calhoun for an in-depth conversation about his book Tom Junod’s memoir, "In the Days of My Youth I Was Told What It Means to Be a Man ," has received widespread acclaim for its "bravura writing" and its deeply personal exploration of masculinity through the lens of a son’s relationship with his philandering, larger-than-life father.
In the Days of My Youth I Was Told What It Means to Be a Man is an intensely emotional detective story powered by a series of cascading revelations. On Saturday, June 6, from 3-5pm Navy Beach will host a kickoff event for <a href="https://www.shredthelove.com/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Shred the Love</a> Montauk, a charitable organization focused on supporting local community members facing hardship. The afternoon will offer drinks, light bites and live music to celebrate the start of love and share more about the Shred the Love mission: “To help locals in need when they need us most.” Tickets for the event and additional information are available online <a href="https://www.eventbrite.com/e/summer-kickoff-party-tickets-1986370936944" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">here</a>.

“We are so excited about Navy Beach’s offer to support this great community organization this year! Not only with this Summer Kickoff Party but with a Round Up program as well. Leyla and Frank have graciously offered their gorgeous venue for us to join with neighbors on the beach in the spirit of Shred the Love Montauk,” shares Laurie Cancellieri of Shred the Love.
Navy Beach is also increasing its local philanthropic support this season with additional efforts to support the local community. Through a Support Local dine + donate program taking place from Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day, a $1 donation will be added to each dining check during these dates, with the restaurant matching the first $500 raised each month. Shred the Love Montauk will be the beneficiary of this program from May 22 through July 5.

For kids, summer means long days outside — running barefoot, climbing trees, digging in the dirt, and exploring the world around them. But, along with all that magic, often comes bug bites, bee stings, and even itchy skin.In this hands-on class for families and young children, Herbalist Christina Winters of Wych’s Bloom will teach participants how to make a soothing summer salve using a powerful medicinal plant growing all around us — one most people walk past every day without realizing its incredible ability to calm irritated skin and support the body after bites and stings. Families will also learn about a few easy-to-recognize medicinal plants commonly found on the East End that have long been used for first aid.Families will discover how common backyard and trail-side plants can become part of a simple summer first-aid kit, then create and take home their own herbal salve perfect for outdoor adventures.​**In addition to the family workshop, 30 minutes of a barnyard visit and animal feeding plus open play are included.**

Nothing says spring better than our popular Classic Design Luncheon and Lecture! We’re honored to feature Genevieve Wheeler-Brown, the author of&nbsp;<a href="https://beyondblueandwhite.com/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">“Beyond Blue and White.”</a>
Wheeler-Brown’s book explores the history of Delftware ceramics, focusing on the often-overlooked roles of women as makers, patrons, and collectors, from 17th-century factory owners like&nbsp;Barbara Rotteveel&nbsp;to Gilded Age collectors like&nbsp;Mrs. J. Pierpont Morgan. A must for devotees of decorative arts and the history of material culture. 
Location: The award-winning Jay Estate Gardens designed by Nelson Byrd Woltz. Co-Chairs, Tracy Edwards, Liz Garrett, Emmy Lambert, Lindsay Bello Martin and Suzanne Clary.
Guests will enjoy botanical cocktails and a tour of the blue and white blooms of our gardens at 11:30am followed by lunch and lecture at 12 Noon. Booksigning at 1:30pm. Catering provided by Scarborough Fair Catering.

GENEVIEVE WHEELER BROWN
Founding Genevieve Wheeler Decorative Art Advisory in 2003, Genevieve comes to the advisory business with more than 12 years of experience in the auction world, strong generalist knowledge and a wide range of contacts in American, European and Asian decorative and fine arts.
Genevieve began her career with Christie’s in 1992 with the European Decorative Arts Department after working as an intern at The Phillips Collection, Washington D.C. in 1990. She was then asked to run Overseas Consignments at Christie’s Park Avenue, a department that handled inquiries for European based auctions including Indian and Southeast Asian art, Islamic Art, Miniatures, Textiles and Cameras. In 1995 Genevieve became the New York contact for sales of Fabergé and Russian Silver at Christie’s Park Avenue and most recently was as a specialist in Fine Musical Instruments at Christie’s Rockefeller Center from 1998 to 2003.
While at Christie’s, she was involved with important sales such as ‘The Pine Cone Egg’ by Carl Fabergé and ‘The Taft’ Stradivari which fetched the auction record for an instrument sold in the United States. She has also been an appraiser on the PBS production ‘The Antiques Roadshow’.
A supporter of several fine and decorative art related institutions, Genevieve has served on the Board of the National Society of Colonial Dames in the State of New York, served as a member of the Young Fellows Steering Committee of the Frick Collection from 1995 to 2005 and co-Chaired the Winter Antiques Show Young Collector’s Night, New York in 2004, 2005, and 2006.
Genevieve currently advises several organizations including <a href="https://www.dumbartonhouse.org/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Dumbarton House</a>, a Federal period house museum in Georgetown, as a board member as well as for <a href="https://www.thewintershow.org/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">The Winter Show</a> as a vice-chair of Opening Night and as co-founder of The Winter Show Luncheon.About The Jay Heritage Center
