Fire Rips Through Billionaire Ron Perelman's Hamptons Home: Cops
Heroic firemen were able to save the home, which was damaged in the blaze.

EAST HAMPTON, NY — A blazing fire ripped through the estate of billionaire Ron Perelman Friday night in East Hampton, police said.
According to East Hampton Village Police, the East Hampton Fire Department was called to a working structure fire at the estate on Montauk Highway Friday night; the call was in response to an alarm on the property, which prompted the discovery by security staff of a fire in the attic in the main residence of the property, known as "The Creeks."
The East Hampton Fire Department and East Hampton Village Police raced to the estate and were on the scene within four minutes, officials said.

The fire, police said, destroyed the attic, parts of the roof, and caused damage to a number of rooms on the top floor.
The East Hampton Fire Department, led by Assistant Chiefs Jamalia Hayes and Brian Stanis, were assisted by Amagansett, Bridgehampton, Montauk, Sag Harbor, Southampton and Springs Fire Departments, and were able to stop the spread of the fire "under difficult conditions," police said.

East Hampton Village Ambulance as well as Montauk and Sag Harbor Volunteer Ambulance were on the scene assessing firefighters for smoke or heat exposure; no injuries were reported, police said.
Fire officials are investigating the cause of the blaze but they do not believe it to be suspicious, police said.
"Friday night, there was a fire at Ronald Perelman and Anna Chapman’s home in East Hampton which is known as The Creeks," Josh Vlasto, a spokesman for Perelman confirmed to Patch via email. "Thankfully, Ronald, Anna and the rest of the family were not at the house at the time and there were no injuries to any staff who were on the property. The cause of the fire is still being investigated. On behalf of Ronald and Anna, we want to thank all the brave local fire fighters and police for their extraordinary response."
Perelman, a billionaire and philanthropist, also purchased The Independent newspaper in 2017.
