INTERNATIONALLY ACCLAIMED CLOWN,
DIKKI ELLIS,
TO ENTERTAIN AT ST. LUKES FAMILY FAIR
East Hampton, NY --- Richard Ellis (a.k.a. Dikki Ellis), an
internationally acclaimed clown, whose work with hospitalized children has been
featured on The Today Show, will entertain kids and their parents at St. Luke’s
Summer Family Fair on July 5.
Mr. Ellis has had a long and distinguished career that has included
being a performer with New York City Ballet in George Balanchine’s "The
Spellbound Child" for PBS and as a health crusader with the "Slim
Goodbody Show." He has been associated with such groups as the "No
Elephant Circus," "If Every Fool Inc." and "Macy's
Thanksgiving Day Parade" as clown consultant for over 10 years.
He was featured in the "East Meets West" and "Happy On"
shows of "The Big Apple Circus" under the direction of Paul Binder
and Michael Christensen. He was first called in as a horseback rider and soon
found his way to "Dikki" the flying clown, as seen on CBS'
"Great Circuses of the World."
A few years earlier, Michael Christensen approached Richard Ellis to co-create
a pilot program called the "Big Apple Circus Clown Care"(which is now
a world-wide event), where clowns dress
as doctors and visit and entertain children in hospitals on a regular basis. He
continues to make his much-appreciated bedside rounds as the beloved clown
"Dr. Trikki".
As co-creator of his own theater company, "The Hanlon-Lees Action
Theater," Richard developed and performed on horseback with the
"First American Joust Troupe" show. The company has been featured in
movies, commercials, television and live at Renaissance Fairs throughout the
country for the past 25 years.
The St. Luke’s Summer Family Fair will be held on Saturday,
July 5th, from 10 AM to 2 PM. It will be an old-fashioned, fun-generating
fair for the entire community. There will be music, carnival-style activities,
games, face painting, pony rides, raffles for kids’ toys, a silent auction, and
great summer-fair foods: hot dogs, burgers, clams, cotton candy, pop corn,
lemonade and much more.
