Man Charged With Felony DWI In East Hampton: Cops

He had two previous DWI convictions within the past 10 years, and had his license suspended 12 times and revoked three, police say.

EAST HAMPTON, NY — A Sag Harbor man was charged with driving drunk and without an interlock device in East Hampton, police said.

According to East Hampton Town Police, Fabrice Twagirumukiza, 34, was arrested on Aug. 6 at 2:25 a.m. on Montauk Highway near Spring Close Highway after he was observed failing to keep right and use the designated lane.

Upon investigation, he had the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath, bloodshot, glassy eyes, and slurred speech; he was also unsteady on his feet and performed poorly on standardized field sobriety tests, police said.

Twagirumukiza has two previous convictions for DWI, from 2008 and 2009, police said.

He was charged with DWI, two previous convictions of designated offense within two years, a felony, police said. He was also charged with first degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a felony, after his license was suspended a total of 12 times on various dates and suspended, three — and driving without an interlock device, a misdemeanor, police said.

Cash bail was set at $7,500, police said.
