Man Drove Drunk Into Opposite Lane: Police

BREAKING: The man was also driving with a conditional license, police said.

EAST HAMPTON, NY — An East Hampton man was cuffed after he was caught driving drunk and crossing into the opposite lane, police said.

According to East Hampton Town Police, Juan I. Auquilla was arrested on Thursday at 7:59 p.m. on Springs Fireplace Road after he was seen driving a 1999 Dodge north on Springs Fireplace Road near the intersection of Queens Lane and crossing over the solid white fog line and off the roadway several times. He then continued northbound while crossing over the pavement markings into the opposite lane of travel, police said.

Upon investigation, he was found to have the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath, bloodshot, glassy eyes, and was unsteady on his feet; he performed poorly on standard field sobriety tests, police said.

Auquilla was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, first offense, a misdemeanor, as well as first degree aggravated unlicensed operation: conditional license/influence of alcohol or drug, a felony, police said; he had been driving with a conditional license, police said.

Cash bail was set at $1,000, police said.
