The Jewish Center of the Hamptons presents:
The Boy in the Striped Pajamas
A feature film based on a novel set during World War II tells its story through the innocent eyes of Bruno, the eight-year-old son of the commandant at a concentration camp, whose forbidden friendship with a Jewish boy on the other side of the camp fence has startling and unexpected consequences.Roger Ebert gave this 3 1/2 stars; the New York Times panned it for being too simplistic, for glossing over the atrocities. At this point in our series, we have witnessed the devastation; perhaps we can afford to examine the holocaust from a different perspective. Disbelief must be suspended for this story to be mesmerizing and unsettling. The acting is so good, the visuals arresting and the story compelling enough to allow one to overlook some inconsistencies or inauthenticity. British Independent Film Award to best actress, Vera Farmiga, 2008. Running time 1 hour 34 minutes.
All Monday Night Movies at JCOH will be introduced by Alec Hirschfeld.
Couvert: $5.00
